As the holidays approach, the internet can be a pretty intense place. It can be overstimulating and overwhelming with brands imploring you to shop now, buy now, get it while you can. Shopping like that - in a frenzied rush, buying on impulse, and likely purchasing things you won’t find useful long term - is the antithesis to our brand. I want you to be able to browse thoughtfully and make buying choices mindfully, and if you are shopping with us, I want you to end up with pieces that will work well for your life long after the holidays have come and gone. This year, we are focusing on the concept of wardrobe-building rather than miscellaneous shopping, and we are hoping to make curating a functional closet a bit easier.
In the spirit of wardrobe building, I wanted to share some of our favorite essentials and illustrate just how transitional and versatile they can be. Comfort and versatility are paramount to every piece I design - I don’t want to make anything I can’t take a nap in. This is partly for selfish reasons, namely that I hate being uncomfortable regardless of my circumstances. Whether I’m at home on a Sunday or at my desk at work on a Monday, I want to be able to sit cross-legged and bend down to pick up a box easily. There are less selfish reasons as well. When I am uncomfortable in my clothing - physically or emotionally - it’s impossible for me to focus fully on the task at hand. That means I’m giving less to my work, I’m giving less to the conversations I’m engaged in, I’m giving less to each moment of joy and laughter. No amount of sartorial accomplishment is worth that to me - no smooth waistline, accentuated calf, or eye-catching neckline is worth living a less-than life.
Well - that last paragraph kind of got away from me, but there you have it: comfort is important. So, we photographed three outfits from our Signature Collection that are suited just as perfectly for lounging around the apartment all weekend as they are for an elegant evening out. No matter what the occasion, you don’t need to sacrifice comfort to look and feel beautiful, luxurious, and yourself. Our silk, linen, and cotton are all machine-washable and perfectly safe to stand up to puppy-snuggles and wine spills. Many of our fabrics look even better wrinkled and rumpled, so they’re ideal for napping and couch-surfing. With a swipe of lipstick and (comfortable) heels, that rumply post-nap linen is perfectly appropriate for snacks and cocktails at your favorite moody bar. Our reversible neckline pieces are literally made for quick-transitions from casual and demure to a little-bit-edgy and more-than-a-little-bit-sexy. Long hemlines are super conducive to curling up in a squishy armchair with a good book and are elegant and interesting with a great shoe and pulled back pony.
This season, I hope you can take some time to think about how your wardrobe works for you, and make sure it’s letting you life to the fullest. If it’s not, I recommend starting with versatility - that’s where I start with the design of each garment. When your closet is full of pieces just as hard-working as you are, getting dressed is a whole lot better.
