The short, easy version of our Clyde Trench. It's classic and weird all at the same time—a combination of our essential Clyde pocket, traditional trench vibes, and a relaxed slouchy fit. With added swing and a large shawl collar, it has a deliciously nostalgic shape while still feeling ultra-modern. Its massive pockets carry anything you need.
This 8oz indigo denim is the perfect weight for a three-season jacket–just thick enough to cut the wind and chill, but light enough to wear indoors all day and not feel like you need to strip off your coat.
We've also made some exciting construction improvements with this material. An extra wide hem on the collar ensures that you see the "right" side of the denim with the collar folded back or wrapped closed. That wide hem is carried to the bottom of the jacket as well, giving luxurious drape and weight. The collar and bottom hem meet in a beautiful mitered corner that eliminates awkward corner bulk. These kinds of technique tweaks are some of my favorite things about making clothes, and I know you'll appreciate them too.
This piece also had some minor fit tweaks! Sleeves are slightly longer and have a smaller hem to make rolling up easier, and some of the shawl collar bulk was removed. To double check fit against an existing version of this style, please refer to the garment measurements!

100% Cotton, milled in a factory with Oeko Tex Standard 1000 certification. Medium weight, sturdy denim in a gorgeous, washed indigo colorway. Reads darker in person than in photos, but has a true blue hue. The 8oz denim is ever so slightly lighter than the 12oz denim
Cotton is heavy duty, breathable, natural fiber that washes and dries beautifully. Ease of wear and care and potential for longevity are the reasons we selected this material.
8oz weight is perfect for a light jacket layer. It's heavier than a shirt-weight fabric, but light enough that you can wear it all day indoors or out without feeling like you need to take off your coat.
Indigo dye is natural and can be difficult to control–variations in color are to be expected and are not considered a defect. There may even be various hues within the same garment, and the color may shift and evolve over time. This material was washed at the mill, and our garments are washed and dried after production, so there should not be bleed-through, but some fading over time may still occur.
Wash on gentle cycle with cold water. Tumble dry warm. Leave unpressed for a casual look or press on medium heat with steam to remove wrinkles.

To be honest, I hesitated for a while on this one because I'm not a huge denim fan. But this jacket is incredible. The denim is so beautiful - not rough or hard. Light and with a wonderful drape. There's a review here that says it is the best Clyde jacket yet, which is why I bought it - and it really is! I love the canvas Clyde jacket, but this one is even better. Just gorgeous. I want to wear it everyday.

I’ve been wearing this jacket almost daily since it arrived a couple weeks ago, and I can’t say enough good things about it. I’m so happy and grateful that size 1X/2X was added to the lineup for the indigo pieces because I’m between L/XL and 2XL/3XL and don’t fully love the fit of either of those sizes on me. These days I’m about a 51” hip and 40” bust, and the 1X/2X gives me the perfect amount of drape. I appreciate that it fully covers the butt (as the last time I tried a Clyde Jacket a few years ago, I don’t believe it did). The indigo denim has a great weight to it—not too structured or stiff, and not delicate or insubstantial either. It will be a great chameleon/workhorse piece for me, styled as a blazer for work or a cardigan for lounging around the house. A+ to ESS for this indigo collection! Please consider offering size 1X/2X in more pieces in the future as well.
