  • Description

The short, easy version of our Clyde Trench. It's classic and weird all at the same time - a combination of our essential Clyde pocket, traditional trench vibes, and a relaxed slouchy fit. With added swing and a large shawl collar, it has a deliciously nostalgic shape while still feeling ultra-modern. Its massive pockets carry anything you need.

I imagine a young Annie Hall type wearing this with slim trousers, an oversized button-down, and oxfords on a brisk afternoon walk to the city library. Wear with the collar folded down for a sleek look or full for a structural shape. Leave open for ultimate temperature control - this can be a true jacket or simply a layering piece. Wrap and belt it for a totally different silhouette and to achieve wind-blocking closure. You can even try it wrapped with nothing underneath as a top rather than a jacket. This chameleon piece can be whatever you want it to be!

  • Material & Care

    Fabric: Midweight Linen

    Fiber Content: 100% Linen

Description: Medium weight, sturdy broadcloth linen that can be pressed to a neat, crisp finish or left wrinkled after washing for a perfectly lived-in look. Linen possesses natural strength and durability, and it's a super friendly fiber on the environment. It requires very little processing and is virtually lint-free, hypoallergenic, comfortable in all seasons, insulating, and absorbent.

Care: Machine washable. Wash on gentle cycle with cold water. Tumble dry warm. Leave unpressed for a beautifully rumpled look (as pictured here), or press on medium heat with steam to remove wrinkles.

*Linen is a natural fiber and will fade and wear over time, which we love. If you prefer your garments to not show as much wear, then hand wash and do not tumble dry.

  • Sizing & Fit

Intended to have a relaxed, oversized fit. The open front allows for versatility in sizing. The drop sleeves are accommodating and slightly cropped to allow for layering and to avoid visual bulk. Size down for a slimmer look.

The generous 3" sleeve and bottom hem also allow for easy length adjustments by a tailor.

While both models are different in size, the Large worked well on their different bodies. Nyamuoch's broad shoulders and height make the Large a great fit on her. Anastasia comfortably fits in the Large, but could have sized down to a Medium for a slimmer fit on her shorter frame with narrower shoulders. Sizing is so fluid and dependent on your body and the garment, so think about how your height and measurements work together and what size might work best overall.

Love at first wear

This jacket is incredible. I have the Clyde Trench as well but I probably prefer the Clyde Jacket, I'm petite so the Jacket just seems to look better on my body. The Flax linen goes with EVERYTHING. I love it!

Super versatile piece, a favorite!

The Clyde Jacket in olive is fantastic. Such a warm golden olive color, it complements many other shades and can almost be treated as a neutral. I love the shape and movement of this jacket with the slightly fitted sleeves and flowier body. Big functional pockets complete the awesomeness.

lovely (but a bit frumpy)

I ordered this in linen flax, size small (my normal size) in hopes of it serving as a summer layer for northern California weather. While the linen was divine, and I loved its coziness, it was too oversized for my liking. The cut, combined with the linen, made me feel like I was swimming in it. I found it unnecessarily large (even for layering and winter use with heavy sweaters) despite my wider shoulders and larger torso. My two cents is that people either like their Clyde jackets WAY oversized or WAY more fitted. I suppose I fall in the latter camp.

I returned the jacket in exchange for the cotton canvas version in a smaller size (XS), and I am much happier. I think the cut of the jacket lends itself to the structured cotton canvas fabric better, and I may have even been able to get away with a size small if I still wanted it more oversized. I am happy with the XS, though, and find it perfect for all season wear, sweater layering in winter, and all occasions.

So easy

Easy to style, easy to wear, easy to wash. I already had the Clyde jacket in navy linen in a medium. Which is practically a year round garment in Georgia. I wanted something more summery and with less volume, so I got this in a small. I have worn it at least once a week. With dresses, with both Josephine tunics, with my Linn tee and with white shirts and linen pants. I have ironed it and not ironed it. This will be worn for 3 seasons and years to come.

Timeless piece

It was my first purchase from ES and it's everything i had hoped for. I wanted to have a linen jacket that is classic and timeless and yet feels modern and sleek. Clyde jacket definitely fits the bill. It drapes beautifully. I got in flax color because i am always crazy about vintage linen that retains its beauty and only looks better with age. ES flax linen is very beautiful, rustic and the weight is perfect. It reminds me of my grandma's precious linen pieces she carefully stored in her cabinet and only taken out for special occasions. The big pockets of Clyde jacket are my main consideration because i cannot live without pockets! Also if you wear it wrapped and secure it with a pin, it will look like a cool kimono. Works with almost every bottoms i have but my favorite is to wear it with cropped fitted pants. I got size Small although I could have easily fit size XS but i generally like my clothes to be very loose.

Amazing Every part of dealing

Amazing

Every part of dealing with ES was wonderful. I greatly appreciated the communication . My delivery time was very close to my departure for a trip and everyone was gracious and helpful.

The jacket is ideal for travel. I felt as comfortable snuggled in on the plane as I felt using it as an evening wrap...extremely versatile.

Thank you,

Such a great lightweight jacket

I originally ordered a L but ended up exchanging for an XL (my usual size). It’s loose without being too overwhelming and it’s so easy to throw over anything. I can comfortably roll the sleeves up without it being too tight around my forearms, which is one of my biggest pet peeves about jackets.
