  • Description

Our favorite outerwear hero, the Clyde Trench. It's classic and weird all at the same time - a combination of our essential Clyde pocket, traditional trench vibes, and a relaxed, slouchy fit. With added swing and a large shawl collar, it has a deliciously nostalgic shape while still feeling ultra-modern. Its massive pockets carry anything you need.

I imagine a young Annie Hall type wearing this with slim trousers, an oversized button-down, and oxfords on a brisk afternoon walk to the city library. Wear with the collar folded down for a sleek look or full for a structural shape. Leave open for ultimate temperature control - this can be a true trench or simply a layering piece. Wrap and belt it for a totally different silhouette and to achieve wind-blocking closure. You can even try it wrapped with nothing underneath as a top rather than a jacket. This chameleon piece can be whatever you want it to be!

  • Material & Care

    Fabric: Midweight Linen

    Fiber Content: 100% Linen

Description: Medium weight, sturdy broadcloth linen that can be pressed to a neat, crisp finish or left wrinkled after washing for a perfectly lived-in look. Linen possesses natural strength and durability, and it's a super friendly fiber on the environment. It requires very little processing and is virtually lint-free, hypoallergenic, comfortable in all seasons, insulating, and absorbent.

Care: Machine washable. Wash on gentle cycle with cold water. Tumble dry warm. Leave unpressed for a beautifully rumpled look (as pictured here), or press on medium heat with steam to remove wrinkles.

*Linen is a natural fiber and will fade and wear over time, which we love. If you prefer your garments to not show as much wear, then hand wash, and do not tumble dry.

  • Sizing & Fit

Intended to have a relaxed, oversized fit. The open front allows for versatility in sizing. The drop sleeves are accommodating and slightly cropped to allow for layering and to avoid visual bulk. Size down for a slimmer look.

The generous 3" sleeve and bottom hem also allow for easy length adjustments by a tailor.

While both models are different in size, the Large worked well on their different bodies. Nyamuoch's broad shoulders and height make the Large a great fit on her. Anastasia comfortably fits in the Large, but she also could have sized down to a Medium for a slimmer fit on her shorter frame with narrower shoulders. Sizing is so fluid and dependent on your body and the garment, so think about how your height and measurements work together and what size might work best overall.

Almost perfect

there’s something so handy about a coat like this in the summer - you can just toss it on and it instantly pulls together an outfit that might otherwise be a hair too casual or too formal. I’d been looking for a replacement for a very well-worn denim duster I got at Zara years ago, and I figured it was finally time to take the plunge and buy this sustainable, ethical alternative, and in a more grownup color (black). It’s pretty perfect, to be honest. I mean, it’s a LOT of fabric, and I do sort of wish the body was cut just slightly slimmer, but it works. The fabric and workmanship is beautiful, and those pockets are worth the slight poof at the hips. I dinged a star off the rating, though, because the sleeves and collar are so dang short! I’m 5’10 and pretty slim, so I ordered the XS. The body is very roomy still, and could probably fit up to a M, but the sleeves are at my elbows and the collar feels like it should have an extra inch or two on to it to really get that shawl feeling. I’m getting the sleeves taken out (thank you, hem allowance), but I do wish the smaller sizes of this jacket were cut to accommodate tall people as well as shorter ones. You can always take things in, but there’s a limit to letting them out!

a looker

This trench is essentially my house-coat for the office. Its roomy fit makes it work over button-ups and sweaters in the winter, and in the summer when the South seems to turn on some universal AC switch to 68 degrees, it's clutch. (And besides its functionality, I think I like the look best with shorts and short skirts, actually.) Since I got the trench in ivory, some of my colleagues make jokes about me looking like a physician, but as long as nobody needs an emergency tracheotomy, I'm fine with being mistaken for the real kind of doctor. For reference my measurements are 36-29-40".

Wardrobe hero

I was a little skeptical of the rust linen, but I'm a convert now. The shape and color are incredibly versatile. I wear it with polished skirts/pants to the office and over jeans and linen on the weekends. Will be adding other colors. The Greta belt is an essential accessory and fits perfectly in the pockets when not in use.

In love!!

I ordered the Olive Linen Clyde Trench and to say I LOVE it is an understatement. It’s a gorgeous statement piece yet so practical and quite cozy too. I found the OS fit was perfect for me. Slightly oversized but not sloppy at all. So happy I splurged on this piece!!

Luscious, badass, cool, elegant.

I bought the Clyde trench in Flax linen, in a size small. I'm a size 6-8, and 5'4. It fits perfectly. I love the length on me - it hits at the top of my calf.

This is a glorious jacket. I feel like it does ALL THINGS. I can wear it instead of a suit jacket at my conservative, corporate job and it looks elegant and expensive. But I can throw it on top of a summer dress or denim shorts and it's perfect relaxed cool-girl style on the weekends. Hell, I could wear it as a beach cover up and it'd be perfect. Someone mentioned this is a great travel jacket and I can absolutely imagine that. Cuddle up with it on the plane, wear it all day and night when you're there.

The mid-weight linen has a beautiful heaviness and drape. It feels luscious on the skin, no scratchiness at all. The colour is gorgeous - I see why this is one of ES's most prized fabrics. It's going to serve me so well through three seasons, and I imagine in winter it will still be lovely to wear indoors over a thin jumper. The armholes are low enough to be able to layer this over jumpers, which I love. Nothing worse than a tight armhole!

I adore it, and I adore me in it.

Its becoming my second skin

I can't stop wearing it! It's so good, I dance in front of the mirror whenever I put it on and then go on with my day feeling like a badass Empress.

Wonderful Trench

I love this trench, it has a lovely drape, which is why I chose the linen over the canvas. The only reason I took one star off is because it does tend to wrinkle, so it needs frequent steaming. Of course, being linen, this is expected and I knew what I was getting into, and the wrinkles don't diminish the overall drape. I love layering it over blanket scarves - this makes it much more accessible in my temperate fall and winter climate.

LOVE LOVE THIS TRENCH!

Beautiful linen, well sewn, awesome design! The giant pockets ROCK! It has a lovely swing to it and is roomy. Tried medium and large. The large hit just perfect across the shoulders, medium was a bit tight. I will wear this forever! Thank you ladies! Kaitlin was the best! :)

My favorite piece!

The Clyde Trench in Linen Flax is hands down my favorite piece of clothing that I own! I purchased this trench after reading reviews about the functionality of it - one review even mentioned that this was a go-to item for traveling. I received my trench just before leaving for a trip to Italy. It was A DREAM for traveling. I wore it almost every single day - and got more use out of the Clyde Trench than any other single piece that I brought. I love the length as it allows you to really wrap yourself in it, if desired.

There is nothing that I love more than feeling put together while being completely comfortable, and that’s what wearing the linen Clyde Trench results in. I often pair the trench with my flax Andy trousers and a t-shirt and I get complimented on the outfit constantly! This is my piece that I can’t be without!
