Our favorite, essential shift dress. The Georgia is one of the first styles I designed, and the pattern was drafted with universal fit in mind. The shoulder seam and sleeve without an armscye looks intentional on all shoulder breadths, the substantial cuff wings out and draws clean lines on any arm, and the just-above-the-knee length works for just about every body.

This is the dress version of our Georgia Tee, which was influenced by effortless caftans from the '60s and '70s but with less material and more practicality in mind. I also drew on neat, crisp blouses from the '40s when women started wearing separates to work. Architectural drama and movement paired with structure and simplicity - a dress that can go anywhere and do just about anything.

It hits just above the knee, and the hem dips a bit longer in the back. You can lounge, explore a city, or sprint after a toddler in this dress. Achieve total summertime ease when worn with bare legs and simple sandals, or go for more of a mood and layer over wide-leg pants. Serves as a dress, tunic, or coverup - it's up to you.

  • Material & Care

    Fabric: Midweight Linen

    Fiber Content: 100% Linen

Description: Medium weight, sturdy broadcloth linen that can be pressed to a neat, crisp finish or left wrinkled after washing for a perfectly lived-in look. Linen possesses natural strength and durability, and it's a super friendly fiber on the environment. It requires very little processing and is virtually lint free, hypoallergenic, comfortable in all seasons, insulating, and absorbent.

Care: Machine washable. Wash on gentle cycle with cold water. Tumble dry warm. Leave unpressed for a beautifully rumpled look (as pictured here), or press on medium heat with steam to remove wrinkles.

*Linen is a natural fiber and will fade and wear over time, which we love. If you prefer your garments to not show as much wear, hand wash and do not tumble dry.

Perfect everday dress

A staple in my closet--I constantly go for this slightly flowy and very comfortable simple black dress. Easy to dress up with a statement necklace or dress down with some leggings and boots.

Feels good on

I'm not sure what I can say about the Georgia Dress that hasn't already been said. So, I'll echo everyone else and confirm that this is the perfect dress. It feels good on, so good, in fact, that I forget about it entirely. To quote Yossy Arefi's "Clothing Is" piece, this dress "make you feel like yourself and then get[s] out of the way."

Love the orange

Gorgeous rusty orange color. Very easy to toss on and look polished.

Ended up with OSM after returning OS that I swam in. This one is big enough to still drape nicely. It hits right at my knees.

Yearlong Dress project

This summer, I decided to conduct a clothing challenge, in that I will wear-one-dress-for-a-year and see what happens. For this, I chose the OS Georgia Dress in black midweight linen as my piece. It is the purest iteration I could find of a dress in natural fider with a loose but elegant cut, the distillation of a garment. I am on Day 44 in a row of wearing nothing but this dress when I am out in public. My middle school students and my educator colleagues are beginning to notice at this point, but it had been a great conversation starter. Only more 321 days to go! So far, so so good. It is holding up well to regular handwashing and being tumbled dry on low. I always feel comfortable and put together, everywhere I go. Would highly recommend this piece if you are thinking of delving deep into the capsule wardrobe world!

Don't delay

I held out on getting this dress because I was worried it would be too short on my 5'8" frame. I bought the Georgia T 2 years ago and wear it at least once a week, even more when I travel because it's a suitcase staple. I love the style. For dresses though, I often buy tall sizes to help with my long torso and pear shape, but didn't actually need to with this dress. I'm a typical 6-8 in dresses and pants (8 if it's tight around my butt, 6 in most tops) and the the OS fits perfectly. I wore it 3/5 days since receiving it in the mail and I can't wait to wear it more! It's above the knee, the slight high-low hem covers well enough for sitting/bending. I feel very chic and comfortable wearing it and I can't wait to get more colors next summer! Love love love.

What to wear for weekend prison

I was afraid I would be given a bland, drab dress made of curtains during my stay at prison. Thanks to this dress, I could prepare for looking uninspired. I can also cosplay one of those movies about dystopian futures where individuality and stye have been eradicated and everyone are mindless mouth-breathers.

Get it!!

My Georgia dress is an absolute gem in my closet. It's truly perfect for anything and everything, from a trip to the market to a wedding. I can't wait to see all the ways I'll wear my Georgia dress! In regards to sizing, I initially purchased an OS and found it to be much to big, I returned and repurchased for an OSM and it fits perfectly oversized without looking like I bought the wrong size.

Easy to wear just wish it came smaller and in “Short”

Decided to keep this lovely quality dress and washed it in hot water and dried it to try and shrink it a bit. That helped, but if it came a little smaller (I’m petite but not tiny) that would make it more flattering on me. I feel without a small heel it’s a bit too shapeless for me to wear. If you’re taller, I’m sure it would work well for you. Would love if ES offered dresses one Short vs Reg vs Tall like the pants and jumpsuits. Would help us smaller height people pull off the more voluminous shapes with are otherwise so flattering and comfortable to wear.

ROI way beyond what I paid! I don't remember what I wore before this dress.

This was my first ES purchase and it won't be my last. I bought my Georgia dress in early July to wear to a funeral in the middle of summer in Los Angles. For the same price of an Eileen Fisher dress I got something I actually liked that I knew I could wear after that occasion. Little did I know I'd wear it 4-5 times a week. It's so versatile, flattering, comfortable... it's just perfect. I throw it on with sandals for day time and a cute heeled clog at night. I can dress it up or down. It hangs perfectly on my body. I wash it in the gentle cycle with Nordstrom Fabric Wash and hang it to dry. I have never had to iron it despite it being linen. I cannot say enough about this dress. The best clothing investment I've made in as long as I can remember.
