Andy Palazzo in Lightweight Wool
I ordered these lovely fawn pants according to my size on the chart, but sadly returned them. I had visions of them becoming a personal winter staple, seeing me through fall and spring temperatures topped with sweaters and through the coldest days of winter layered over thermal leggings and under a long wool coat. Upon receipt, however, I realized that they would function less as a staple and more as a statement, with limited wearability (not an option at the very-fair but still significant price point).
A note about the wool: it's plush, warm, soft, un-itchy(!), and lightweight enough to be pliable. In a word, it's stupendous. That said, in the Palazzo design, the wool felt excessively generous, to the extent that I got a bit tripped up in the fabric as I walked. This isn't a problem I have in my beloved Andy Palazzo in linen or silk. For my needs, I think these wool pants in the more streamlined Andy Trouser or Florence silhouette would be more wearable—both a statement in their loveliness and a staple in their functionality.
Big and beautiful
If when you first see these you balk, be sure to try them on. I thought they might swamp me, but they work perfectly. If you live in wool pants all winter, you will like these, but the cropped hem and looseness give you some air. It's an oversize cool kind of look--great with booties.
I am 27 waist, 36 hips and chose small regular according to size guide. I also ordered some silk palazzos and will exchange those for a long and could probably go a size up for comfort--so be prepared to make size adjustments based on your proportions.
Love myself in these, but...
I realize that these are beta, so I am going to give an honest review, hopefully that will help the ES team make the right adjustments and shoppers decide if they want to buy.
-Warm! I was worried that the wide leg opening would be drafty, but they are like a luxurious blanket for your legs.
-Stylish AF, I always get compliments in these bad boys. They drape beautifully and are very versatile!
-The fabric is sublime. Very high quality. Soft and the weave is so beautiful.
-Heavy. I ordered the same size I wear in the silk andy palazzos and I noticed that these seemed looser. I think the extra weight of the material causes them to pull down. It's not the worst, but I do need to adjust them throughout the day.
-Bulky, If I'm layering, I need whatever is going over top to be very oversized. For this reason I usually tuck, which looks great.
-It's a lot of material, you will get caught on things. While these pants are comfortable enough to forget you're wearing them, you will be reminded when you step on your own pant leg. When sitting, I find it hard to adjust my position without standing up to move the fabric. I've learned to work around this and adjust my behavior when I'm in these pants.
-Mine started unravelling after the first wear. I don't know if they left the warehouse like this or if it was a casualty of all the times I got caught in the fabric, but I noticed a seam on one pant beginning to come undone by about 2 inches. I mended it myself and…
