  • Description

    **Limited Edition**

Our current Cotton Canvas material is being discontinued as we prepare to release a new, 100% recycled Cotton Canvas this spring. Learn more about this discontinuation and our new Cotton Canvas here.

As a farewell surprise, we’ve created our three belt styles—Asawa, Greta, and Serpentine—in our current Cotton Canvas for those of you who want to complete your current Cotton Canvas outerwear pieces with a matching belt. These belts will be available for the duration of the Cotton Canvas discontinuation until March 1 or until we run out of fabric, whichever comes first. Because they are limited edition, please note we are unable to offer discounts on canvas belts.

    ・・・・・

Named after Japanese-American sculptor Ruth Asawa, this tie belt draws inspiration from elements of the traditional obi, but also brings in elements of traditional menswear and art deco wraps and sashes. Asawa's work suggests the infinite curvature of the human form, transformation of shape, and manipulation of volume. Use this piece to metamorphose our most oversized, fluid garments into new and transformative shapes. Subtle curves or dramatic cinching add endless options to your wardrobe. Widest at the center, this belt tapers gently towards the ends. Wrap it around your waist twice, knotting or tying it into a bow in the front or off to the side for a more asymmetrical look. Or go a different direction, and wear it like a cummerbund knotted in the back with romantic, trailing ends. It's a statement piece that feels immediately secure and substantial on the body. And after a gloriously indulgent meal, all you have to do is loosen the knot a bit—no need to feel restricted.

My favorite way to wear this belt is in monochromatic outfits with a matching jacket or dress, but contrast is also eye-catching. Use this canvas version to close open-front jackets or to cinch in a sweater dress at the waist.

  • Material & Care

    Fabric: Cotton Canvas

    Fiber Content: 100% Cotton

Description: Heavyweight, workhorse fabric with a distinctly architectural feel. The weave is one of the most durable, resisting pilling, thinning, and tearing by the nature of its very structure. It has a sturdy body and weight and will break in and patina beautifully with wear. Looks great pressed crisp or rumpled and worn.

Care: Machine washable. Wash on cold and tumble dry warm. Press on low heat with steam to remove wrinkles, or leave unpressed for a perfectly unfussy look. Will break in and soften significantly over time.

*Cotton is a natural fiber and will fade and wear over time, which we love. If you prefer your garments to not show as much wear, hand wash and do not tumble dry.

  • Sizing & Fit

Intended to be worn at the natural waist. It can be tied as snugly or loosely as desired. Size up for more length, and size down for less length. Choose your size based on your waist measurement!
