This design was inspired by a fascination with one of my favorite albums, Astral Weeks by Van Morrison. The album’s sound is infinitely interesting to me, it’s hard for me to follow the melody and each track ends with a lack of resolution. I love the unanswered question, the tension it leaves me feeling. I wanted to experiment with that concept in pattern making - stretch the mind, leave something to the imagination. The cut of this garment does just that - it’s made with a single pattern piece, cut four times and assembled in an origami-like puzzle. The panels cross from front to back, creating a beautiful intersection at the armscye. At first glance it’s difficult to discern where a stretch of fabric begins and ends, and the crossing panels can be worn with the dip of the V in the front creating a delicious art-deco seaming pattern, or with the V in the back nipping in the waist and drawing an exquisite line of tension across the upper panel.

Just ever-so-slightly cropped, wear this top with a pair of interesting trousers or a billowing skirt to an art opening. I love the raw silk texture paired with hard-working canvas, or fluid silk crepe. Worn monochrome or contrasting - an excellent, all-season, elegant blouse. Nubby, textured raw silk can be dressed up or down.

  • Material

    Raw Silk Broadcloth

    100% Silk

Ultra soft and forgiving, wearable matte silk. Raw silk is nubby and textured, and feels a lot like cotton but softer and with more drape. Lighter-weight than our linen, but a bit more durable than our silk crepe. Nature has already given the fiber so many of the properties humans need in clothing, without having to add synthetics or chemicals or alter its structure. It's highly functional, strong, durable, insulating and cooling, and at the same time indescribably beautiful. The drape and movement of silk on the body feels just as good as it looks.

Available in two classic, timeless colors - a warm, creamy eggshell, and soft, muted black.

Machine washable - wash on gentle cycle with cool water, tumble dry on medium heat. Hems, necklines and sleeves will wrinkle - press with steam to shape and they’ll return to pristine, crisp edges.
