The Cocoon Coat is the first jacket we ever designed, and we're re-releasing it this season in the most incredible fabric we’ve worked with to date. The ultra-warm heavy basketweave wool fabric is excellent for cold days and incredibly soft to the touch. We sourced this wool domestically through an Oregon ranch that is a leader in sustainability - we visited the owners, met the sheep, and saw firsthand the inspiring and progressive work they are doing to take care of their land and animals. The yarn is then woven right here in Nashville by our good friends at TN Textile Mill. This is our first major step towards a truly known, traceable, and ethical supply chain.

Inspired by the kimono shapes of the late 1920's and the effortless look of a man's jacket thrown casually over a woman's shoulders, the structural silhouette is oversized yet flattering at the same time. Three-quarter-length dolman sleeves don't get in the way of your hands, and look great with layers. A comfortable jacket for all day wear, and an excellent layering piece. Full silk crepe de chine lining feels super luxurious and allows for ease of movement. Throw this jacket on over just about anything this fall and winter: sweaters and trousers, your cocktail dresses, layered over another coat, or use it as a blanket on the train.

  • Material

    Heavy Basketweave Wool

    100% Wool

This is by far our most luxurious fabric to date. It’s a thick, handwoven basketweave wool, and the weight and texture are unparalleled. It has an almost magnetic elegance. Very warm and ultra-soft, this fabric has been washed and felted so that it’s thick, durable, very smooth and soft to the touch, and hand-washable right at home. Extremely warm and densely woven, this is a true heavy-weight coating fabric. You have to feel this fabric to believe it. Created for the ultimate warmth and durability - this is a material meant to last and serve you for a long time. This fabric is one of the most special parts about the Cold Weather Collection - the raw material is sourced domestically through Imperial Stock Ranch and the yarn is purchased from Imperial Yarn Company, folks we are are beyond honored to work with. We visited the owners, met the sheep, and saw firsthand the incredible work they're doing in sustainability. It’s then woven into this stunning, high quality fabric right here in Nashville by the TN Textile Mill.

Available in two of our favorite classic colors - a rich, tawny camel, and deep, dark, jet black.

Hand wash in cool water with a mild wool detergent. Submerge in cool water, gently squeeze and release fabric to fully wet. Let soak, remove from water, and press with a dry towel. Stretch garment out to original shape, leave flat to dry. Press with steam once dry. Every wool garment ships with a complimentary wool brick - use this to comb out any pilling that occurs over time and keep your garment looking tip-top.

Sensitive to wool? This is one of the softest wools we’ve ever found, and is by far the softest we’ve ever used for our garments. We’ve been wear-testing it ourselves, and have had several folks with severe wool sensitivity try it out directly against the skin and so far we’ve had nothing but positive feedback. We are confident in its comfort level, but if you’re unsure just email us at support@elizabethsuzann.com and we can send you a sample swatch to feel for yourself!
