The Hip Pack DIY kit was created in partnership with Open Studio Patterns (the sewing pattern line from Sew Co.—the factory we work with to cut and sew our finished garments). Kit includes buttery soft–but sturdy—12oz denim offcuts from our Indigo collection and everything else you need to sew your own hip/fanny/cross-body pack.
This pattern has a lot of pro details, including webbing tabs and zipper tabs that give it a clean look. If you haven't made a zipper or adjustable strap bag before, this will be a very fun project that adds some skills to your repertoire. When it's finished, wear it slung cross-body or around your hips—either way, you’ll be hands-free and good to go!
This Kit is intermediate-level but can be made by a confident and patient beginner! It should take two-three hours of prep and sewing.
Finished pack dimensions: 9.5" wide x 6" long x 2" deep
Strap lengths: size XXS-XL max length 51", size 1X-5X max length 82"
Inside the kit you'll find:
12 oz indigo denim offcuts (plenty to make your bag)
Paper sewing pattern
1” natural cotton webbing
Quick-release clip and slider
9” molded nylon zipper
QR code with digital, step-by-step instructions and a link to Open Studio's sew-along video.
While our production scraps are always recycled, turning them into new products is even better—and this project from Open Studio is so fun because you get to participate in that!
