Tell me about this workshop!
In this workshop you'll learn how to sew your first pair of pants from start to finish—the Florence Pant!
We'll walk through every step together: fitting the pattern to your body, cutting your fabric accurately, constructing the pants, and finishing them with a waistband and hems. Pants can feel intimidating, but I promise—with the right guidance and a great pattern, they're totally achievable.
This workshop is a great option if pants have always felt out of reach. The Florence Pant is a beautifully wearable, relaxed-fit staple that you'll reach for again and again, and once you've made one pair, you'll want to make ten more.
Since this is a beginner workshop, we will NOT cover adding pockets. We'll likely offer an intermediate Florence class in the future with the inseam pockets and other pattern modifications.
Who is this for?
Suitable for beginner and intermediate sewists. Some sewing experience is helpful but not required—if you've sewn a simple garment before (or taken our Georgia Tee workshop!), you're ready for this.
This workshop will cover very basic fitting adjustments, but for a focus on fitting we have the Florence Fitting Workshop.

How do live virtual workshops work?
This is a live, 4-week workshop hosted virtually. You'll get access to our workshop platform which has a community forum, other resources and guides, and the live video classes (it functions just like a Zoom call) along with the recordings after each class.
I teach the entire project live and you are able to ask questions and interact in real-time. The recorded classes are then available to you for life to re-watch at your convenience.
What's included?
-
Core Pattern & Resources
- Florence Pant digital pattern: our popular, easy-fit wide leg PDF pattern
- Supply & fabric guide: curated recommendations for fabric, notions, and machine setup to ensure success
- Option to purchase printed pattern: students will have the option to purchase a printed copy of the pattern before the workshop starts if you choose
-
Live Classes
- Four x 2 hour live classes: real-time instruction, step-by-step video demos, and the opportunity to ask all your questions
- Office Hours access: for the months of April and May you'll be able to join weekly Office Hours calls for additional live support and help
-
Community & Support
- Private community access: live workshops are hosted in our private Skool group, where you're also able to ask questions and get live feedback and support from Liz and other students
- Lifetime membership: you are able to remain in this group for life for continued support and guidance
What tools/equipment do I need to have?
- A sewing machine in good working order capable of a straight stitch and ideally a zig-zag stitch
- At least two new, sharp machine needles appropriate for your fabric (a Universal 80/12 is a great start)
- Fabric shears
- Pins and/or pattern weights
- Seam ripper (mistakes are part of the process!)
- Iron and ironing board (I highly recommend a sleeve board, and this can substitute a full-size ironing board as well)
What other supplies will I need?
- 2.5–3 yards of woven fabric (linen, cotton, or a medium-weight woven blend work well)
- All-purpose polyester thread—I recommend Gutermann Mara 100 for almost all projects, and it's the thread we've manufactured with for years
- Clear gridded ruler with 1/8" markings
- Tailors chalk or fabric marking pen
- Elastic for the waistband (at least 6-10 inches more than your actual waist measurement for safety)
- Pencil/pens
- Printed copy of the Florence Pant Pattern (the digital pattern is included with the workshop, you can print at home or order a full-size printed copy prior to the workshop)
What happens next?
Immediately after you check-out, you'll receive an email with an invitation to our private Skool group. This will let you access our community platform, and this is where the workshop classes will be hosted when they occur.
Once you're logged in, you'll find a brief video that walks you through the platform, and then you can start exploring right away.
You'll get an email from me as the workshop date approaches with more information about downloading your pattern files and starting to gather your tools and supplies!
