The Florence Pant is the easiest breeziest wide leg pant in the land! Use this classic, building-block pant as a jumping-off point for a variety of pant styles that will serve you well for years.
A dead simple wide leg silhouette with a high rise. The Florence has a slim waist that isn’t bulky around the midsection but also has ease and room to move comfortably, making these pants you’ll want to wear time and time again.
In a soft linen, these feel seasonless and relaxed. In a heavier canvas or wool, they are indestructible. Pair with a cashmere sweater and sneakers and wear for an entire weekend trip to the mountains, or wear them in the summer with a silk tank. Or, do what I do, and wear them all the time as very stylish pajamas that allow you to go from your couch to the real world without changing a thing.
Beginner difficulty. This pattern requires topstitching and the insertion of an elastic waistband. Choose from US Sizes XXS-4XL and three length options with varying rise and inseam measurements.
This pattern has 2 pattern pieces in total, and can be completed in about two and a half hours including cutting time.
Recommended Fabrics and Required Materials
Medium-weight fabrics with no stretch. Linen, cotton, hemp, in plainweaves or canvas will work well. Lighter weight fabrics will add more drape, and heavier fabrics will result in a more structured garment.
-Fabric of your choice--see detailed fabric requirements here
-2” (5 cm) wide elastic cut to length for your waist
-All purpose polyester thread
-Sewing machine (capable of a straight stitch)

This is a ridiculously easy sew for a pair of fashionable pants.

I am a beginner sewist but the Florence Pant is so easy to sew that my muslin turned out to be absolute wearable. Looking forward to sew this one in wachend linen.
- Sia M.Verified Buyer1 month agoRated 5 out of 5 starsWear these all the time!
So easy to sew and so elegant and comfortable to wear! I really appreciate the tall option. I am 178cm tall. The right rise and length make all the difference, I think I’ll have to make all my own pants from now on, I am spoilt! Also loved the Clyde but found the calves too tight for comfortable sitting, so happily wearing these while eagerly awaiting the calf pattern revision on the Clyde’s. PS if you’re buying elastic from spotlight in Australia the 4cm width is much cheaper than the 5cm.

The Florence pant was my first time sewing a garment since taking a sewing class 20 years ago. It’s a very approachable pattern and yields an extremely comfortable pant. I followed the stitchcollective YouTube video for instructions for how to construct the pants with pockets
- Juno N.Verified Buyer2 months agoRated 4 out of 5 starsStraightforward instructions.
My one nitpick is the claim that this would take about 2.5 hours. It seems kind of deliberately misleading to help sell the game pattern, or just decides to ignore the amount of time it would take a less experienced sewist. Maybe something like “this will take 2.5 hours if you make no mistakes and know exactly what you’re doing during every step” would be more accurate.
The sliding scale pricing option is very cool and I hope more pattern companies find the flexibility to follow suit.Elizabeth Suzann1 month ago
Hi, Juno! We appreciate your feedback on timing. Our estimate does depend on experience and how people sew. Some sewers are more methodical and take their time. We thought that the timing was accurate, but our manufacturing background may be biasing our estimates. We'll seek out more feedback from home sewers to reevaluate these estimates. Enjoy your new Flos!
