The Clyde Vest is our absolute favorite "third piece." Adding a layer like this to your wardrobe is such a great way to introduce functionality, versatility, and dimension. I see classic, timeless, monochrome looks with this piece, inspired by the likes of a draped layering virtuoso. A slim, monochromatic look paired with smart heels will take you from work to dinner in the city, and to everywhere in between. I also see this covered in paint, dust, or chalk and paired with trusty denim and clogs on a practicing artist like long-time muse Eva Hesse. This piece is meant to make your life easier and getting dressed simpler.

The shawl collar gives this piece personality and functionality, with the option to wrap it closed around your body to keep out wind or to just change up your aesthetic. The sleeveless cut reduces unnecessary bulk at the arms, makes layering under other jackets a cinch, and makes this piece ultra comfortable to wear all day.

100% Linen, Oeko-Tex certified. Medium weight, sturdy broadcloth that can be pressed to a neat, crisp finish or left wrinkled after washing for a perfectly lived-in look. Linen possesses natural strength and durability, and it's a super friendly fiber on the environment. It requires very little processing, and is hypoallergenic, comfortable in all seasons, insulating, and absorbent.

Linen is a natural fiber made from cellulose fiber inside the stalks of the flax plant. It is a complete product of nature, and can vary drastically in color and texture based on the growing conditions of the season. Variations in base color and texture are not uncommon.

Natural imperfections in weave are also to be expected and embraced--slubs, nubs, and occasional bits of organic matter are common in linen. If you are looking for the homogeny and perfection of a synthetic fiber or a finely woven cotton you will not find it in linen.

Wash on gentle cycle with cold water. Tumble dry warm. Leave unpressed for a beautifully rumpled look or press on medium heat with steam to remove wrinkles.

Linen is a natural fiber and is expected to wear and fade over time, which we love.

Flax A neutral to end all neutrals. Our Flax Linen is the undyed, natural color of the fiber. The color can vary from the palest beach sand to uncooked oatmeal with flecks of warm spices to a taupe putty with grey undertones. We challenge you to find a pairing color Flax linen doesn’t bring out the best in.

Black With the natural variations in the weave of true linen, our Black is anything but basic. Unworn, this forever shade holds the saturation of soot and tar. If you wash and tumble dry, over time you’ll see a bit more fading around the seams, giving a lived-in, favorite tee look.

Olive Like a drizzle of the nicest bottle of olive oil in your pantry, this shade of our Midweight Linen is a Mediterranean-inspired pop of earth. Wash and dry it for years and it will still retain the most beautiful lichen-esque hue. Pairs effortlessly with neutrals like our Flax Midweight Linen.

Navy Possibly the cooler little sister to Black, our Navy Midweight Linen is a color of substance. It can read almost black in a certain light, but its true essence is an inky midnight blue. It fades over time, wash, and wear like your favorite dark denim, which makes us love it all the more.

Terra This savory shade of Midweight Linen is spicy chili oil in fabric form. The bold hue remind us of the magical red clay of Oaxaca, Mexico, but there's also a nod to the slightly softer orange shades of mimolette cheese or cantaloupe. For a balanced look, we often pair our Flax Midweight Linen with Terra, but a monochromatic Terra top and bottom is our idea of a modern power suit.

Ivory Our not-too-white white Midweight Linen. A shade of white that won't blind you, nor does it get dingy looking after wear or wash. The undertones are very subtle and warm, akin to white rice. Our Ivory reads as crisp and clean, especially with a quick press of the iron. Slightly transparent, we prefer tops and dresses in Ivory.

This piece has had some minor fit tweaks from the last edition! Some of the shawl collar bulk was removed and the length has been shortened slightly. Intended have a relaxed fit. To double check fit against an existing version of this style, please refer to the garment measurements!

Clyde Vest Highlights

1. Classic, extra-roomy, crescent-shaped Clyde pockets that span the side panel.

2. A deep, 3" bottom hem that hits just past the knee and provides luxurious weight and room for alterations.

3. The low, deep armholes are perfect for layering over fitted tops or chunky sweaters.

4. Our signature topstitching on vertical seams provides structure, durability, and a streamlined look–and underneath that topstitching is a strong, multithread chain stitch.

5. The generous shawl collar can be folded open or pulled closed depending on your styling preferences and the weather!

Love the linen version of this vest!

I’m a huge fan of the Clyde vest style, but this linen version is the best yet. While the canvas vests are comfy and versatile, they are also pretty heavy, so for me they work best as outerwear. The linen vest is lighter and much more versatile, the oversized armholes make it possible to wear over so many tops, and the pockets are nice and big but not too long (I found the ones in the canvas vest to be so long I would be leaning over to reach my keys!). I just got my vests and I’m already wearing them nonstop! Thank you, ESS!!
