  • Inclusive sizing, fits XXS-4XL.
  • Beautiful instructions you can print at home or at a copy shop.

The essential, classic, forever pant. Its deep, open pockets are cut a little wider than the pant leg giving plenty of room to hold a myriad of important things like your cell phone, car keys, pens, snacks, small animals...

In a soft linen, these feel seasonless and relaxed. In a heavier canvas or wool, they are indestructible. The Clyde Work Pant is a great all-purpose pant with large, crescent-shaped pockets spanning the side of the pant leg. Unique, three-panel design results in vertical seams along the center front and back of each leg in addition to the inseam, allowing for limitless fit adjustments and style changes. Use this classic, building-block pant pattern as a jumping-off point for a variety of wardrobe staples that will serve you well for years.

Intermediate difficulty. Suitable for patient beginners. This pattern requires understitching, topstitching, facings, and the insertion of an elastic waistband. Choose from US Sizes 000-28 and three length options with varying rise and inseam measurements.

This pattern has 10 pattern pieces in total, and can be completed in about three hours including cutting time.

We recommend medium-weight fabrics with no stretch. Linen, cotton, hemp, in plainweaves or canvas will work well. Lighter weight fabrics will add more drape, and heavier fabrics will result in a more structured garment. Ensure that whatever material you choose can hold up in the pocket area.

You'll need: -Fabric of your choice--see detailed fabric requirements here -2” (5 cm) wide elastic cut to length for your waist -All purpose polyester thread -Sewing machine (capable of a straight stitch) -Needle

This pattern is for our original Clyde Work Pant fit — sizes 000-28, in lengths Short, Regular, and Tall. Our new fit for the Clyde Work Pant in sizes XXS-4XL will be available in pattern form at some point in the future!

See our detailed size guide and finished garment measurements for this pattern here.

    Nice!

I'm very very novice and ended up with a totally wearable pair of pants (though in many more hours than the five I had read somewhere it's supposed to take)--so overall I'm happy! They're a tad snug because I had a hell of a time figuring out how to align and sew together all the crotch panels, so I ended up semi-inadvertently eliminating like a square-inch patch of fabric down there, whoops. I did choose the short model, but these are really REALLY short! I ended up not doing the final bottom hem fold to buy back 1 1/4" of length, and even so they're practically capris.

My super experienced sewist mom was puzzled by a few things, so I thought I'd put them here:

    - Why do a sewn-in waistband elastic rather than the kind that you just insert into the waistband fabric loop? My waistband feels and looks rather chunky, and she thinks the three parallel lines of top stitching along the elastic possibly exacerbates it.

    - Why sew and finish the bottom hems of the leg openings before the sides? In the order proposed, there's a very real chance that you'll end up with an uneven bottom hem, if for some reason your leg panels don't all meet up exactly at the bottom (mine were thankfully almost perfect but still). If done in the opposite order, like my mom says is generally the norm, doing the bottom hem last would mitigate that kind of imperfection.

I'll sew these again, possibly one size bigger, and in regular length instead of cropped, and see if I end up with a five star pair of…

    Amazing sewing experience and outcome

I was on a mission for stylish, comfortable, ethical and affordable pants and this pattern made it possible for me. I'm an intermediate sewist and the pants were very easy to make. Patient beginner friendly for sure. I made a pair as pajamas out of old sheets. They are perfect!

    Clyde Work Pant

I chose a size based on my measurements and made a toile. The pants turned out to be huge, baggy and shapeless. I'm not going to bother trying to make them fit. A waste the $30 I spent to buy the pattern.

    Love love love!

The pattern was easy to follow and I love the customization on rise, inseam, etc. I also appreciate that they provide garment measurements as well - that combined with the body measurements helps you pick the perfect size! Just measure a pair of existing pants that fit the way you like and voila! You can select the right pattern size. I wanted these to be extra comfy breezy pants so I went a size larger knowing I could bring in the waist with the elastic. Perfection!
