Pattern Details
The Harper Tunic captures the best elements of my most worn closet staples— an easy, unfussy fit, half sleeves that stay out of the way (or slim, cropped long sleeves if you choose that view), flattering mid-thigh length, and one big pocket to catch all the miscellany I end up with throughout the day.
The cut skims the body loosely making it ideal for layering in the fall and winter. It’s my favorite tunic to wear to the studio—when you’re working, comfort is key, but you still want to look put together. The Harper has an interesting and avant-garde appeal, and it would only be improved by drips and smears of paint or a dusting of flour from the kitchen.
Make this style in various weight fabrics for year-round wear. Our most popular version of this tunic is made in our Midweight Linen, but we also love it in a lightweight gauze or warm, nubby wool for winter.
The Short Sleeve Tunic is a simple silhouette with elbow length sleeves.
The Long Sleeve Tunic is slightly narrower in the body to accommodate the insertion of the drop-shoulder, bracelet length sleeve.
Difficulty Level
Beginner difficulty. Suitable for sewers of all levels. This pattern requires topstitching and inserting a bias binding. Choose from Sizes OS Minus - OS Plus 3 and two sleeve length options to create your next favourite tunic.
This pattern has 5 pattern pieces in total, and can be completed in about two and a half hours including cutting time.
Recommended Fabrics and Required Materials
Light- to medium-weight fabrics with no stretch will work exceptionally well. Linen, cotton voile, silk crepe, seersucker, tencel, rayon-pretty much anything with some drape will work for this pattern. Lighter weight fabrics will add more drape, and heavier fabrics will result in a more structured garment. You can even try this in a wool or wool blend for a wintry option.
You'll need:
-Fabric of your choice--see detailed fabric requirements here
-All purpose polyester thread
-Sewing machine (capable of a straight stitch)
-Needle
